The Challenge
In this case, we have a spinach field of approximately 19 hectares, where root weeds posed a significant challenge. It was assumed that the weeds only covered a small part of the field, but without precise data, it was difficult to assess the extent. To ensure that the treatment was as effective and gentle as possible, it was decided to use CropUp to identify and precisely map where the weeds were spread. The goal was to avoid overtreatment with a focus on using the mapping for wheat the following spring.

The Solution
Mapping with drones
The field was flown over by a drone, which collected high-resolution images of the approximately. 19 hectares
Analysis with AI
CropUp's advanced AI analyzed the images and identified weeds with high precision
Adjustment of spray map
The results were reviewed, and the spray map was adjusted to ensure the treatment would hit precisely without waste
Export and treatment
The final spray map was exported to the sprayer, which then performed targeted spot spraying
Results
75%
Reduction in chemical usage
977.4
Liters saved
Conclusion
By using CropUp to map root weeds in the spinach field, it became possible to precisely identify where spraying is necessary for wheat in the spring.
The analysis showed that the weeds were only spread over 4.89 hectares, resulting in a 75% reduction compared to full-field spraying.
This targeted approach significantly reduces chemical usage, lowers costs, and ensures a gentler treatment of the crop.
This case illustrates how CropUp technology not only minimizes chemical usage but also helps farmers optimize their field management – benefiting both profitability and nature.
